Mo's House Cocktail Lounge

This converted 1940s butcher shop in Evansville was transformed into a 1920s-inspired cocktail lounge, in collaboration with interior designer Matt Wagner Design and award-winning mixologist Moriah Rose. The building’s existing unused apartment in the rear allowed for a significant expansion of the bar and lounge seating without enlarging the service areas, maintaining the structure’s historic footprint while enhancing its functionality.

The interior design celebrates both history and craft. Custom tile work, cherry wood built-ins, bespoke wall coverings, and a brass-studded zinc bar top create a warm, inviting environment that evokes the glamour and sophistication of the 1920s cocktail era. Carefully considered materials and finishes balance historic character with contemporary flair, resulting in a space that is both visually striking and intimate.

Beyond aesthetics, the renovation brought the building into full compliance with current plumbing, accessibility (ADA), and life-safety standards, ensuring the lounge operates safely and efficiently while preserving its historic charm.

The collaboration between architecture, interior design, and mixology has resulted in a vibrant, immersive environment where guests can enjoy expertly crafted cocktails in a space that honors the building’s past and embraces the energy of modern social experiences.
